Pack Light. Train Hard. Keep Your Mind Open. Why the Best Adventures—and Opportunities—Are Found Beyond the Beaten Path

If there's one lesson adventure has taught me, it's this:

The best experiences in life rarely happen where everyone else is standing.

Whether I was hauling lobster traps off the coast of Maine, running an ultramarathon, starting a business, writing a book, or taking a chance on an unexpected opportunity, the greatest growth always came after I stepped off the familiar path.

That's why one of my favorite Live Bold Pro Tips is simple:

Pack Light. Train Hard. Keep Your Mind Open.

These aren't just hiking tips.

They're a blueprint for living with more energy, resilience, and purpose.

Pack Light

Most people aren't held back by what they lack.

They're held back by what they're carrying.

Fear.

Self-doubt.

Past failures.

Other people's expectations.

The need to have everything figured out before taking the first step.

Just like an overloaded backpack makes every mile harder, unnecessary mental and emotional baggage drains your energy before the adventure even begins.

Ask yourself:

  • What am I carrying that no longer serves me?
  • What belief is keeping me from moving forward?
  • What could I accomplish if I traveled a little lighter?

When you let go of what weighs you down, you create room for growth.

Train Hard

Adventure rewards preparation.

The mountains don't care how motivated you are.

Life doesn't always wait until you're ready.

That's why we train.

Training isn't punishment.

It's preparation.

Every workout...

Every healthy meal...

Every difficult conversation...

Every new skill...

You're building a stronger version of yourself before the challenge arrives.

Research consistently shows that regular physical activity improves energy, cognitive performance, stress resilience, and overall health. Exercise also supports brain function by increasing blood flow and stimulating the release of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), which helps the brain adapt and learn.

The stronger you become physically and mentally, the more opportunities you're prepared to embrace.

Keep Your Mind Open

One of the greatest mistakes we make is believing we already know the answer.

Curiosity changes everything.

Every adventure teaches something new.

Sometimes the lesson comes from success.

Sometimes it comes from taking a wrong turn.

Sometimes it comes from the people you meet along the way.

People with a growth mindset—the belief that abilities and intelligence can improve through effort and learning—are more likely to embrace challenges, persist through setbacks, and continue developing throughout life.

Every new experience expands your perspective.

Every conversation has something to teach you.

Every trail offers another view.

The Best Adventures Are Beyond the Beaten Path

Most people stay where it's comfortable.

The safest trail.

The familiar routine.

The predictable job.

The same conversations.

But growth doesn't happen where everything feels easy.

It happens when you're willing to explore beyond what everyone else is doing.

That doesn't mean taking reckless risks.

It means being willing to say yes to new experiences.

Take the class.

Apply for the job.

Start the business.

Travel somewhere new.

Sign up for the race.

Volunteer.

Meet someone outside your circle.

The greatest adventure isn't necessarily climbing the highest mountain.

It's becoming someone you never imagined you could be.

Energy Follows Action

One of the biggest myths is that motivation comes first.

In reality, action often comes first.

Action creates momentum.

Momentum builds confidence.

Confidence fuels energy.

I've experienced this time and time again throughout my life.

The days I felt most alive weren't the days everything went perfectly.

They were the days I chose movement over hesitation.

Adventure over comfort.

Growth over certainty.

Your Live Bold Challenge

This week, ask yourself:

✔️ What can I let go of?

✔️ How can I prepare myself physically and mentally?

✔️ What new opportunity have I been avoiding?

✔️ What trail have I been afraid to explore?

Then take one small step.

Because the best adventures—and often the biggest opportunities—are waiting just beyond the beaten path.

At The Energy Lifestyle Company®, we believe your energy isn't something you find—it's something you create.

You create it through the choices you make.

The habits you build.

The challenges you embrace.

And the adventures you're willing to take.

So pack a little lighter.

Train a little harder.

Stay curious.

And remember...

Life isn't about finding the easiest trail.

It's about becoming the person who can thrive on any trail.

Live Bold. Live Healthy.
